| Norwood Farm
is a Rare Breeds Survival Trust Approved Centre,
near Bath in Somerset. They have already been
generating much of their own electricity using
a 6.5Kw wind turbine for some time. In their
continued efforts to become more self reliant
and environmentally friendly, they commissioned SWTH to provide
both a rainwater harvesting system and solar
hot water heating.
The 3000 litre rainwater tanks supply 'grey'
water for the toilets. As more than a third
of all our water is flushed down the toilet,
this system will save Norwood thousands of litres
every year. A bigger scheme to supply drinking
water for the cattle and sheep is planned as
part of Norwood's ongoing water management programme.
The Schott® solar
panels will supply hot water to the shop, cafeteria
and toilets, again reducing their need for electrically
heated water and saving money. Most of the benefit
will be seen during the summer months when the
farm is at its busiest.
